Trash Pick-up and Reporting Rats

Contact the Department of Public Works or Boston 311 if you experience one of these problems:

  • Missed trash or recycling pick-up
  • Trash code violations or illegal dumping
  • Questions about disposal of large, bulky items (TVs, computer monitors, appliances) or hazardous materials


If you see a rat:

  • Call Inspectional Services Department, Environmental Services: 617-635-5300 or
  • Call 311
  • Report online at www.cityofboston.gov/311


Be sure to indicate the exact location of the rat sighting, and leave your phone / contact information in case access to private property is required.
