Historic Preservation
- Protected brick sidewalks with sit-down strikes, 1920, 1947
- Developed recommendations for Boston Zoning Law, 1922
- Championed creation of Historic Beacon Hill District, 1955-1963
Enhancing Residential Living
- Advocated for subway station at Charles & Cambridge corner, 1932
- Initiated pilot of designated resident parking; stickers now city-wide, 1970’s
- Promoted redesign of Cambridge Street, 1991-2009
- Initiated tree program; over 75 new trees planted and 700 pruned since 2005
Attracting Families to Beacon Hill
- Founded Hill House community center, 1966
- Sponsored development of 250 Cambridge Street as affordable housing, 1978
- Supported and protected parks on Myrtle, Temple, and Phillips Streets
Protection from Institutional Expansion
- Agreement with MGH: non-expansion, south side of Cambridge Street, 1976
- Agreement with Suffolk University: non-expansion in residential Beacon Hill, 2008
