Street & Sidewalks
Maintaining the beautiful brick sidewalks and old gas lamps is the responsibility of the City of Boston Department of Public Works, but getting it done requires vigilance and effort on the part of all concerned residents. Visit our Resources bulletin board for a list of telephone numbers to call when repair is needed.

Street Sweeping
Thanks to the hard work of the BHCA's Clean Beacon Hill Committee, half a dozen additional streets were added to the street sweeping schedule in the Spring of 2006. Now, almost all Beacon Hill streets enjoy regular sweeping by the Boston city Department of Public Works during the period of April 1- November 30 (except for city holidays). Signs posted on all streets indicate the schedule for that street, and all car operators must observe the parking bans or risk a ticket and the inconvenience and expense of being towed. Only by having the streets free and clear of all vehicles can the street sweepers do a proper job. Please visit the Resources bulletin board for current schedules, but consult all signs carefully when you park your car in case changes have been made.

Street Cleaning Schedules, Snow Removal, Rats, Fire Safety Regulations and More
Visit our Resources bulletin board for helpful hints and current, detailed information on living in Beacon Hill.

Ice and Snow
Walking around Beacon Hill after a measurable snowfall is one of the greatest pleasures of living here. The white caps on the gas lamps and hydrants, the frosting on the sills and windowpanes, and the smell of fires from neighbors' hearths will transport you to a simpler time--but only if residents follow city rules and regulations to make the pathways safe and passable. Please observe the guidelines as posted in our Resources bulletin board.

Safety
Personal safety is always a concern in an urban environment, and the BHCA Safety Committee works diligently with the Boston Police Department to prevent as well as address problems. All residents should exercise judgement and caution when walking around the streets, particularly late at night, and should call 911 immediately when a police officer is needed at the scene.

Fire regulations prohibit the use of charcoal grills within a building or structure, including balconies, fire escapes, porches or roofs. Gas grills are prohibited above the first floor of a building used of habitation. Please visit our Resources Bulletin Board for additional safety information.

The BHCA operates and serves on numerous committees to help maintain and improve the daily quality of life for Beacon Hillers. These committees deal with related topics such as trees, trash and recycling ,and more. Please contact us to help us in our efforts; you can participate on a committee, make a donation or become a BHCA member.
