Architecture
The BHCA has long considered the architectural integrity of Beacon Hill a core element of its mission. As such, its Architectural Committee takes an active role in preserving the neighborhood through its participation in the public process that governs the Beacon Hill historic district. The BHCA Architecture Committee meets every two weeks and supports the goal of historic preservation in two distinct ways:
  • Supporting the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission, the committee reviews all sites scheduled for consideration by making advance visits, taking documentary photographs and forwarding comments to the commissioners prior to each monthly hearing. Members also attend the hearings to comment on applications and report violations.

  • Responding to inquiries from both those planning work on the exterior of their buildings and those concerned about changes taking place, members of the committee provide valuable, unbiased information.

In addition, the committee reviews and revises existing publications, offers a public lecture series and meets with real estate brokers to educate them about the benefits and restrictions of buying property in a historic district. When possible, it posts information regarding these activities on our Architecture bulletin board, which also contains guidelines, links to related web sites, architectural Q&A and forms for asking questions or commenting on current construction projects.
