Doing Business
Beacon Hill's two main shopping streets, Cambridge Street and Charles Street, offer a variety of stores and restaurants, which are attractive to residents and visitors alike. Please visit Beacon Hill Online for a list of local businesses.

Business Membership
Local businesses are encouraged to join the BHCA. Business membership includes a listing in our Beacon Hill Neighborhood Guide, a booklet published annually each fall, mailed directly to all our members and distributed through our business members. The guide serves as a handy reference tool with listings of important dates, as well as useful telephone numbers and addresses for Hill residents and business owners. For a list of current BHCA Business Members, click here.

Neighborhood Business Association
Our fellow nonprofit, the Beacon Hill Business Association, supports the success of local businesses by representing commercial interests with the city and hosting special events to promote the health and vitality of their members. The BHCA participates by appointing a representative to serve on the BHBA and by sponsoring various events and initiatives with the BHBA, such as Holiday Decorating.

Zoning & Licensing
New businesses or businesses making changes in their physical plant and/or operations will usually need to apply to the Inspectional Services Department, the City of Boston Licensing Board, and the City of Boston Board of Appeal for approval. In the case of applications to either of the latter two agencies, the businesses will also need to contact the BHCA Zoning & Licensing Committee which serves the City agencies in their decision-making by gathering and providing community input regarding such applications.

Zoning and licensing regulations apply to building exteriors, signage and more. Please visit our zoning & licensing web page and refer to our neighborhood resources bulletin board for additional information.

Trash & Recycling
Finally, the Public Works Department regulates trash storage, hauling and disposal for commercial establishments, and the BHCA Clean Beacon Hill Committee works with both the city and commercial establishments to ensure compliance with all regulations. Please refer to our neighborhood resources bulletin board for current regulations.

Parking, Streets & Sidewalks and More
Beacon Hill is subject to numerous other guidelines. Please refer to our neighborhood resources bulletin board for current information. You may also wish to peruse the living here section of our site to better understand additional issues which affect residents.
