July 2010
Dear residents,
As many of you are aware, this morning firefighters were called at 4:58 a.m. to 51 Phillips St. to put out a fire on the second floor of a 4-story, 10-unit apartment building occupied primarily by young professionals. We are saddened to report that two individuals were critically injured and up to 12 people have been displaced from their apartments. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.
We hope you will join the BHCA in our efforts to help our neighbors during this difficult time. We have learned from Will Onuoha of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services that residents of up to four units will need to find permanent housing elsewhere. If you have or are aware of any rental units available, please contact him directly at 617-635-3485.
If you would like to contribute to a charitable fund for emergency food and other needs, please send a check payable to BHCA, indicating ‘Fire Fund’ in the memo line. We will disperse the funds to the fire victims according to your wishes or as needed.
If there are other ways in which you would like to reach out to the fire victims, please let us know so that we can assist you.
Thank you.
