Park Plaza Civic Advisory Committee
A founding member of the Park Plaza Civic Advisory Committee in 1972, the BHCA continues as an active participant. The group, comprising 17 neighborhood, civic and business organizations, was organized by mandate of the Commonwealth’s Department of Community Affairs as the result of successful community efforts to defeat construction of six million square feet of building floor area, including buildings as tall as the Prudential Center, atop an eight-story parking garage to be constructed opposite the Public Garden and Boston Common.

This CAC, the oldest in the City, has actively promoted alternative development of traditional taste and architectural scale in the Park Square area of the State Transportation Building, 28 St. James Street, The Four Seasons, Heritage on the Garden and One Charles Street South. The CAC is currently monitoring five building projects in the planning or construction stages, plus plans for extension of the Silver Line beneath or near Boston Common. The BHCA representative has served two 4-year terms as CAC President. This independent CAC remains as the only Citizens’ Advisory Board dealing with the BRA that is not appointed by the mayor or BRA.
