| Nonprofit Neighbors (BHCA) |
Under the auspices of the BHCA, the Beacon Hill Nonprofit Neighbors group has been meeting regularly since November 2003. The BHCA formed the group in order to explore the common interests and unique situations of nonprofits on Beacon Hill. Representatives from more than 20 organizations participate. They have learned about their fellow nonprofits, formed partnerships, and shared knowledge and experiences. One common goal is to educate the public about the mission of their institutions and increase participation by Beacon Hill residents in their programs.
At its brown-bag luncheon meetings this year, the group explored the theme “Connections and Collaborations.” Highlights were an art-making workshop, sponsored by the Advent School, to make panels to be hung in the new Charles T station, and a conversation with the Reverend Ron Tibbetts of Neighborhood Action, who shared his wisdom and experience on effective and appropriate ways to manage interactions with homeless people.
The group’s informal and lively meetings continue to be a source of mutual support for new and ongoing partnerships.
